I never did learn Dursht’s master’s name, but he brought us to a place up the hill from the docks that he said was reputable, and paid for the three of us to eat the evening meal (Jort happily devoured my share) and to have a well-appointed room on the top floor for the night. He also introduced Roichal to the owner of the place, a man named Siphal, and while Jort and I enjoyed dessert and honey wine (well, I had only a few sips of the wine) the two of them talked in low voices.

The room held a large bed in the center and a small pallet off to one side. Jort took the pallet, while Roichal and I settled into bed together. Honey wine made Jort snore, but I did not mind. I buried myself into Roichal’s arms with a sigh. It was not quite like being in bed with Jorin, but it was the most comfortable I had been in months, and I knew now to appreciate the luxury while it lasted. Chapter 60

In the car rushing toward the portal at the edge of Fox Pass, Luke was having a quiet, queasy, possibly lethal existential crisis. Charlie watched him in his peripheral vision. “What’s the matter?” he asked. “You’re pale. And you’re Mediterranean; it’s wrong for you to be pale.”

“I think I gave Sally too much energy,” he said. “I have supposedly charged people before, the way I let them charge me, but I can’t remember doing it. I didn’t know when to hold back.” Continue reading Capricious: Chapter 60

I woke in the late afternoon to find my stomach complaining of hunger but the rest of my body feeling remarkably well. As I sat up and stretched I did not feel the pull of taut cuts across my back. I felt no ache, no soreness anywhere. Had the salve been that powerful? Or was this more of Sergetten’s magic? I was grateful regardless.

I looked around the room for the first time. This was a bedroom I had not visited before and I presumed it was Sergetten’s private room at the keep. His side of the bed was empty, the blanket and pillow already smoothed. As my bare feet touched the floor I was surprised to feel the stone was cold. Summer was ending here, too, and a chill must have stolen in during the night. Continue reading The Prince’s Boy: Chapter 66

Chapter 59

Luke watched the storm coalesce out of nothing. The towering clouds swirled, swelling to greater and greater magnitude, and the wind blew around them in chaotic gusts. Lightning played around Sally, dancing through her fingertips and down her arms, to the brown-tipped mounds of her breasts, over her stomach, between her legs. She yelped and wriggled her body, black eyes wide.

“Oh,” she said, “oh what the–oh!” She spread her legs farther apart, as if caught in the middle of a jumping jack. “I’ve never done this right after sex, when I’m aroused, when I’m so aware–holy shit!” Electric lights sparked across her legs, lighting up her skin, almost from the inside out. Luke reached out and touched her; he got a small jolt, not entirely unpleasant. He scooted forward to her and raised his mouth to her clit. Continue reading Capricious: Chapter 59

Just as no one had told me how the sea would sound, no one had told me how a ship would smell. Like salt and spray, and like the sweat of men working, that I expected. But the sails and deck in the sun had a scent of their own, sweet in the way that some of the fragrant trees in the deep woods smelled.

As we sat on the deck in the sun, I remarked upon this to Roichal, who merely looked at me curiously. Continue reading The Prince’s Boy: Chapter 65

Chapter 58

Luke looked over the top of the rusted Ford, gauging how far away Brent was, obscured by multiple skeletal motorcycles and a contorted chassis. He put his hands on the ground. “Get ready,” he said to Allison, and curled his back like a stretching cat. His magic roiled through him, a warm current in rivers of blood and muscle and bone. It washed out of him, into the ground, as if he were made of the same material as the earth. He focused it, sent it crashing toward Brent. The tinker fae shrieked as a jutting spire of rock threw him into the air. Allison fired, and Brent fell back to the ground. Continue reading Capricious: Chapter 58

I could feel my own heart thundering in my chest, hear the rush in my ears, as Sergetten stepped away. I thought for a moment that he went to open the door to the guards who would surely just run me through this time, rather than give me a chance to escape. I tugged on the bonds around my wrists, dangling me from the end of Sergetten’s bedpost, but it was some strong stuff he’d bound me with, neither rope nor leather. I was on tiptoe and could not get much purchase.

The next voice I heard was the Lord High Mage’s. “I know not what plot might have brought you under the thrall of this traitor, Sergetten,” he said. “But if you surrender him now, you shall have every opportunity to explain yourself.” Continue reading The Prince’s Boy: Chapter 64

Chapter 57

Luke caught up to Sally and Allison behind Brent’s house, and the three of them stopped, crouching, behind a pile of rust that was once a tractor. The backyard was a breathtaking field of chaos, full of cars, boats, bicycles, and parts for every mechanical thing ever made, all thrown haphazardly into the brush. Blackberry brambles crawled out from beneath a trio of old Triumph motorcycles, briars curtained off a stripped-down Volkswagen, and a holly bush was caught in a permanent act of exploding from within a propane gas grill, its red berries like bright embers. It looked like a mechanic’s shop long after an apocalypse. For Luke, who was as delighted with machines as a child in a Toys”R”Us, it was a macabre scene. Continue reading Capricious: Chapter 57

Elves aren’t the only sexy ones, you know. In these modern post-Hobbit days, it is high time we culture acknowledged one simple truth: dwarves can, in fact, be smokin’ hot. From the deep, rich and remote places of the world come legends of these fascinating beings: earthen men and women, fae kings, great metal workers and miners, mighty warriors, they are compact but virile mythological figures.

In Hard as Stone, editor Julie Cox brings together erotic stories of brawny builders and earthy smiths in which love can be robust, hearty, hardworking, bearded, and short… or not, as size is relative. And it’s not the size of the hammer that matters, but how it’s used… and perhaps how beautiful the sex toy is that one can craft with it.

Many of the stories in this volume also pick up on the notion that dwarven societal gender and biological sex characteristics may not be divided along the same lines as humans, and gay, lesbian, and genderqueer themes are amply represented in these stories. All the stories are magical, whether they touch on the modern world or delve deep into the realms of high fantasy. Some are bawdy, some are darker in tone–all are sizzling with sexuality.

Includes the stories:
Stolen Days by TS Porter

Next to Borabi, I was short. Not that I was tall next to most other people, either, but Borabi’s long limbs were a dramatic contrast to my stocky build. He was lithe and graceful until he was startled, then those limbs went flailing everywhere like a colt’s. When that happened, I laughed, and he scowled. Most of the time it was the other way around.

Like now. He writhed beneath me, a squirming mess of an elf, his breath hitching as he tried to stop himself from laughing. I held the paintbrush away from him and cuffed his pointed ear.

“Stop moving,” I said. “These runes are very precise. I don’t want to open a portal to some demonic realm because you’re ticklish.”
